Tierney is a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with individuals, couples and families. Tierney offers psychotherapy to teens and adults who are struggling with the demands of their lives, with experience treating relationship and intimacy issues, marriage and couples counseling, family conflict, and individuals who have identified with trauma, anxiety, depression, existential/spiritual crises, women’s issues/experiences of oppression, as well as the repercussions of dis-ease and stress on the body. Regardless of the specific therapeutic issue, Tierney takes an individualized approach to treatment that is both directive and compassionate.
During her years in practice, Tierney has increasingly incorporated the concept of whole body wellness into traditional talk-therapy sessions. Motivated by a desire to understand how yoga impacts the release of emotion stored in the physical body ("the issues in our tissues"), Tierney takes an "integrative" approach to her patients' emotional, physical, mental and spiritual well-being. While Tierney’s interventions are guided by her training in interpersonal/family systems work, she firmly believes it is essential to invite the client’s body into the conversation. When indicated, Tierney draws on her experience with experiential techniques, guided imagery, relaxation training, yoga philosophy, and mindfulness to give clients more access to their innate self-regulatory systems.
